For a Japanese car, the interior and tech are quite good. Keyless start function in 2013! Full soft-leather seats, leather steering wheel, Bluetooth connectivity and a Bose sound system.
I would say the leather and steering wheel feel can rival much more expensive luxury German cars. The front seats can be fully adjusted backwards so you can really lie down and kick your feet up. Useful for a break on longer journeys. It’s neither a noisy nor super-quiet cabin. You can hear the engine some.
The Bose sound system is quality with deep bass for listening to music. Its air-conditioning does the job, but again falls below more luxurious German brands. The Mazda 6 is quite a long sedan so you can easily fit four adults in comfort. Boot space is also of a good size and practical.
Unfortunately, I found the engine to be lacklustre in hindsight. For motorway trips, it really feels the maximum the car can handle is 80–90km/h. It can probably go faster, but you would feel unsafe to do so as it lacks any power, handling or adequate braking capability. Its fuel economy is very good.
I bought it brand-new for $40K and sold it for $13K after 100,000km, so it still remains a popular vehicle in the second-hand market.
A great car for the interior, comfort and fuel economy. The driving experience, not so much.
