2021-2022 Honda Civic and Honda CR-V recalled, window tint on 5000 cars too dark

Police penalty notices for dark window tint usually apply to backyard operators and independent workshops, but it turns out Honda Australia has been applying illegal tint on an industrial scale.

Honda Australia has recalled 5053 of its 2021-2022 Civic and CR-V models because of genuine accessory window tint that may be too dark and reduce visibility.

According to Honda, the recall affects all variants of the Civic and CR-V built in 2021 and 2022.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Honda Genuine accessory window tint applied to the front (door) side windows does not meet specifications and may be too dark and reduce visibility.

“Reduced visibility will potentially increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”
