Ex-Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz rally car for sale

Genuine Subaru World Rally car expected to fetch six-figures.

Australian auction house Lloyds Online is currently selling a genuine Subaru Impreza WRX STI rally car.

Specifically, a 1994 Subaru Prodrive 555 Group A – just one of 63 motorsport-ready vehicles built by UK-engineering firm Prodrive. As a manufacturer-supported program, many of the 63 vehicles built were used for Subaru’s own rally efforts.

The example for sale is claimed to be chassis “94.006/Body #007”, and still fitted with the era-correct “94 PD.01” driveline.

During the car’s debut season in 1994, it was put on the podium by Spanish rally star Carlos Sainz at the Monte Carlo rally.

Later on, it was piloted by late Scottish rally legend Colin McRae, with the car’s current ‘L555BAT’ reflective of that event.

It’s claimed the vehicle still retains its original ‘active’ front differential and Prodrive six-speed gearbox – both technological advancements reserved only for Subaru’s own efforts and top-tier drivers.

Lloyds Online states that the race car’s history has been scruntiused and verified by the International Classic Automobile Authentication & Rating System, Prodrive themselves, and also by Subaru affiliated and New Zealand based motorsport outfit Possum Borne Motor Sport.

In March 2020, another of the 63 original Prodrive cars came up for sale – chassis 93.004 – commanding a price in-excess of AU$1,000,000.

The online auction for chassis 94.006 is set to end on Sunday 26 August at 08:00PM.
