The Mercedes-AMG GT sports car has been recalled over concerns the sensor in the front passenger seat may not recognise an occupant – potentially disabling the airbag.
According to the German performance marque, six examples of the GT could be fitted with software that doesn’t correctly classify the type of front passenger.
If the condition occurs the sensor may think a child seat could be a person, or a lightweight person to be a child seat, which could result in the passenger airbag being deactivated.
The fault could increase the risk of injury to the vehicle’s occupants.
Affected AMG GT sports cars were sold from 2 January 2017 through 1 April 2017. The VIN list for these units can be viewed here.
Owners will be contacted via mail, and are advised to visit their local dealer to have their occupant classification software upgraded.
