2019 BMW X7 teased ahead of late 2018 debut

The new BMW X7 has been teased ahead of the production car’s debut at the end of 2018.

Although the new crossover is around a year away from its grand unveiling, the Bavarian automaker released a series of photos overnight showing various pre-production versions of the X7 trundling down the line at the company’s Spartanburg factory in South Carolina.

The camouflage-free photos in the set show key details about the crossover’s styling, including its overall shape, thin headlights, imposing double-kidney grille, wheel arch vents, and tailgate treatment.

After the pre-production cars are built, they will be fitted with a camouflage wrap at the factory. From there, these vehicles will be used for homologation and endurance testing, including stints out at California’s Death Valley and the extreme cold of Scandinavia.

According to BMW, the Spartanburg factory is the company’s largest, and has around 560,000 square metres of covered floor space. In 2016, 9000-odd employees produced 411,000 vehicles, 70 per cent of which were exported to various parts of the world.

Since it began operation on September 8, 1994, the South Carolina factory has produced 3.9 million vehicles.

With an expected three rows of seating, the X7 will be largest and most luxurious BMW crossover to date. Drivetrain details and specification about the new SUV won’t be released until closer to its launch.

From the end of next year, the X7 will be produced in Spartanburg alongside the X3, X4, X5 and X6 crossovers.

Australia

Earlier this year, BMW Australia confirmed the X7 will arrive down under shortly after the start of production.
