2018 Land Rover Discovery Commercial unveiled

The Land Rover Discovery Commercial, a load-lugging version of the Discovery SUV, has been revealed in the UK.

The Discovery Commercial junks the second and third row of seats entirely, and replaces them with a rugged plastic floor liner and 1856 litres of cargo space.

Without advertising decals stuck to the side of the car, it’s hard to tell the Commercial from passenger-carrying variants. The Commercial has functioning rear doors, and a powered tailgate for boot access is standard.

In the UK, the Discovery Commercial is available with two turbo-diesel engine options: a 179kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium motor, and a 192kW 3.0-litre V6.

Despite being optimised for carrying stuff rather than people, the Discovery Commercial doesn’t have the air of a stripped-out, bare-bones workhorse.

There are three trim levels (S, SE and HSE) available, with base models featuring four-wheel drive, twin-speed transfer box, InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, air suspension, a full-size spare wheel, autonomous emergency braking, and lane departure warning as standard.

Top-spec models also come with 20-inch alloy wheels, a 380W Meridian sound system, satellite navigation, hands-free tailgate operation, reversing camera, keyless entry, blind spot monitoring, and driver condition monitoring.

Australia

The Discovery Commercial goes on sale in the UK from the second quarter of 2018. At this point, it won’t be coming to Australia.
