2018 Hyundai i30 Go arrives from $19,990

The Hyundai i30 Go has been added to the Australian line-up, with prices for the entry-level hatch kicking off at $19,990 plus on-road costs.

Available with both petrol and diesel engines, along with the choice of manual or automatic transmission, the i30 Go serves as the new price-leader. It’s designed to cash in at the lower end of the small-car market, where the new-generation i30 has battled – due largely to its $20,950 starting price in Active trim.

Key features of the i30 Go include automatic headlights, LED daytime-running lights, a rear-view camera, 16-inch steel wheels with a full-size spare, tyre pressure monitoring, cruise control, and power windows all round.

There’s also a ‘new’ 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – but the Go misses out on the in-built satellite navigation of the Active, and no images of the interior are available to see if there are significant visual changes with the different display.

In terms of safety equipment, buyers get seven airbags, stability control, and hill-start assist. Hyundai Australia has confirmed that a Safety Pack will be available for the Go and Active variants from “late January”, allowing customers to add driver assistance tech autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring.

The 120kW/203Nm 2.0-litre GDi petrol engine is offered with a six-speed manual ($19,990) or a six-speed automatic ($22,290), while the 100kW/280Nm 1.6-litre turbo-diesel is available with a six-speed manual ($22,490) or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission ($24,990).

With those prices, the Go works out to be a smidgen under $1000 cheaper than the equivalent Active.

The Hyundai i30 Go is on sale now.
