Mitsubishi Australia has issued a recall for 20,187 vehicles from its 2013 to 2017 ‘NW’ and ‘NX’ Pajero model line as part of the ongoing Takata airbag campaign.
This latest notice refers to the less-serious (but still potentially dangerous) ‘beta’ airbags, in this case fitted on the passenger’s side.
As with previous Takata-related recalls, the airbag inflator may rupture when deployed, shooting metal fragments into the cabin.
If the condition occurs, it poses a serious risk of injury, even death, to the vehicle’s occupants.
Affected Pajero models were built from 7 January 2013 through 31 January 2017. The VIN list for these vehicles can be viewed here.
Owners of the recalled off-roaders will be contacted by Mitsubishi Australia, and advised to contact their local dealer.

Takata airbags have been linked to 19 deaths globally, including one in Australia, with the global tally now exceeding 100 million vehicles.
In September, the Australian Federal Government proposed a compulsory recall for all vehicles in Australia fitted with the potentially life-threatening inflators and replace them by 31 December 2020.
Owners who believe their vehicle is affected by the recall should check their car’s make, model and vehicle identification number (VIN) on the Product Safety Australia website.
