Toyota Australia has issued separate recall notices for the C–HR and Tarago, for faults with the electric parking brake and seatbelt anchorage bolt respectively.
According to the company, the process for installing the reversing camera on local Taragos involves the removal and re-installation of anchor bolts for the left-side seatbelts. If improperly re-tightened, the bolts may come loose during regular operation of the car, and the left seatbelts may not do their job properly in an accident.
In the C-HR, an issue with the Skid Control ECU might falsely identify an increase in resistance from the electronic park brake as an open circuit. A warning light will illuminate when the problem occurs, and owners might find themselves unable to deactivate (or, in some cases, activate) the park brake.
Vehicles with the faulty park brake are at risk of rolling away if they’re parked on a hill in neutral (manual) or a gear that isn’t park (CVT).
Toyota says neither condition has caused accident or injury. A total of 4,886 C-HRs and 739 Taragos are affected. Recalled C-HRs were built between July 26th, 2o16 and October 10th, 2017, while affected Taragos were produced between May 30, 2016 and March 12, 2017.
Owners will be contacted by mail, and asked to contact their local dealership to arrange a fix. The Tarago repair will take around half an hour, while the C-HR will take around an hour to sort. Both repairs will be carried out free of charge.
