The BMW i Vision Dynamics unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show previews a new electric sedan.
According to BMW, the i Vision Dynamics is “a dynamic and progressive, four-door Gran Coupe” that will be the “future [of] electric mobility between the i3 and i8”.
The i Vision Dynamics concept looks to be quite to different to the leaked patent renderings of the upcoming i5 model.
If it goes into production looking vaguely similar to today’s concept, it could be positioned as a sexier and sportier alternative to the leaked i5, possibly with i6 branding. Alternatively, the transition to production will lead to Subaru-levels of disappointment or the earlier i5 leaks were way off base.
BMW didn’t provide many specifics about the concept’s drivetrain, but claims the i Vision Dynamics has a top speed in excess of 200km/h, the ability to race from 0-100km/h in around four seconds, and a battery capable of providing up to 600km of driving range on a single charge.
The company says “barely visible joins and the flush integration of glass into the main body” not only help the car’s aerodynamics, but also give the vehicle a progressive and technical look.
Perhaps most controversially, the i Vision Dynamics includes a dramatic reworking of the company’s double kidney grille. Although the company has yet to issue any images of the car’s interior, it promises a great view outwards via the car’s full length piece of glass.
When the BMW i Vision Dynamics goes into production, it will be one of 12 pure electric vehicles BMW plans to put on the road by 2025. It will also be one of 25 electrified models due in BMW showrooms by 2025.
No timeframe has officially been given for when the i Vision Dynamics will go into production, although reports indicate 2021 to be the year.
