British sports car manufacturer, Caterham, is celebrating 60 years of the Seven, bringing seven of its iconic models together.
To mark the occasion, a mixture of old and new cars gathered at test track Longcross Studios in Surrey, England.
The impressive line-up included a 1957 Series 1, a replica of the car that featured in the TV show The Prisoner, an SS, a CSR 260 tuned by Cosworth, along with current models; the Sprint and 620S.
Additionally, there was a Superlight R500, the same model that won Top Gear’s ‘Car of the Year’ in 2008.
By comparison, the first series Seven (above) produced a measly 29kW of power and weighed around 500 kilograms, whereas the new 620S (below) pumps out 231kW at a tiny 610kg.
Sir Colin Chapman launched the Seven in 1957, and it was later sold to Caterham in the early 1970s, where the company kept Chapman’s vision:
“Over the 60 years of the Seven, we’ve never lost Colin Chapman’s engineering essence – a lightweight, high-powered machine that is fit-for-purpose,” said Caterham Cars CEO, Graham Macdonald.
“Every Seven provides a raw, pure, fun driving experience like no other vehicle. Long may it continue for the next 60 years.”
