Aston Martin Racing has placed an overall second in the Red Bull Soapbox Race in London, behind the neat Brooklands Special.

The ‘billy cart’ version of the Vantage GTE race car, which won the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans, was a crowd favourite at the 24 Seconds of Le Ally Pally.

Le Mans-winning drivers Jonny Adam and Darren Turner were there to lend a helping hand with a mock pit stop before the race began, complete with confetti cannons, before Aston Martin‘s senior prototype engineer Alex Summers took the wheel.

“Everything about the day was incredible, and the run itself was a memorable experience,” said Summers.

The soapbox racer reached a top speed of 46km/h and made some decent air over the ramps, while narrowly avoiding the hay bale obstacles.

Off the track, the team scored 28 out of 40 for creativity, but was more convincing in the performance category, with the top score of 40.

Aston Martin was hoping for some entertainment for the crowd of 20,000 (maybe like that Volkswagen Kombi?). However, the run was faultless, apart from some front spoiler bending!

Next, bring on a soapbox racer of the Valkyrie!
