CarAdvice can exclusively reveal that the Opel Astra Sports Tourer will form part of Holden’s 24 new cars by 2020 and will wear the Holden Astra wagon, or Holden Astra Tourer badge when it arrives later this year.
We understand the two model range will consist of the Holden Astra LS wagon and the Astra LT wagon. While it’s based on the Opel Astra hatch design (and not the US Chevrolet Cruze), it won’t use the R/RS/RS-V badges currently used on the hatch range.
The Astra wagon measures in at 4702mm long (316mm longer than the Astra hatch and 37mm longer than the Astra sedan), 1809mm wide (same width as the Astra hatch and 2mm wider than the Astra sedan) and 1510mm high (25mm higher than the Astra hatch and 53mm higher than the Astra sedan).
Kerb weight comes in at 1344kg for the entry-level model, which means it should make full use of its four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.
Powering the Astra wagon is the familiar 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine found in the Astra Hatch R and R+. It produces 110kW of power and 240Nm of torque. It will exclusively be offered with a six-speed automatic transmission.
At this stage, it’s unclear whether a more powerful 147kW version will be offered in Australia.
The Astra wagon will form part of Holden‘s 24 new models by 2020 – the brand’s commitment to refreshing and rejuvenating the range in Australia following on from the end of local production.
An official announcement regarding the Astra wagon is expected to be made soon, with the vehicle on sale in Australia before the end of the year.
