The rear of the new Renault Megane RS has been leaked online ahead of its debut later this year.

If this photo, originally posted on the Ferd Facebook page, is on the money, the RS will retain the tail-lights used on the less powerful hatchback models. The rear fascia, though, is all new, with thin vertical vents at each corner, a centrally mounted rear exhaust, and a prominent diffuser-style element.

We can also just see the RS’ alloy wheels and the accompanying low-profile tyres. This vehicle also seems to have wider rear fenders, which lines up with the mule spied in December 2016, which featured temporary wheel arch extensions.

As the latest Megane won’t be offered as a three-door, the RS model will now be based on the five-door hatchback.

We got a glimpse of the Megane RS’ front when Renault teased the hot hatch a few months ago. Although the car was covered in a shroud, it’s clear the RS will retain the regular Megane’s C-shaped driving lights, while also adopting the chequered flag fog lights that made their debut on the Clio RS 16 concept.

It’s unclear, at this stage, what engine will provide motivation for the Megane RS. One train of thought suggests the new Megane RS will use more powerful version of the 185kW/320Nm 1.8-litre turbo employed by the Alpine A110 coupe.

Others posit the RS will use a 2.0-litre turbo instead.

Either way, it’s likely the new Megane RS will have around 225kW in order to counter the Honda Civic Type R, and its 235kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo.
