A new video published online reveals the subtle standard exhaust note of the 2018 Kia Stinger GT, also revealing why the local arm is working to get a sportier sound from the twin-turbo V6 flagship.
The one-minute clip shows a grey Korean-market Stinger – distinguished by the unique ‘E’ badge on the bonnet and on the wheel centre caps – being revved at what appears to be an outdoor display for the new liftback.
Based on the video, it doesn’t sound that exciting, though just a week ago Kia Australia affirmed local tuning and development for the highly-anticipated flagship model included “getting the right sound from the car”, according to general manager for corporate communications, Kevin Hepworth.
When it arrives in Australia in September, the Kia Stinger will be available with both a 190kW/353Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo and a 272kW/510Nm 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6.
Local models will send drive to the rear wheels exclusively via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The company has already released the claimed 0-100km/h time for the V6-powered Stinger, which is 4.9 seconds – not far off high-end sports sedans like the Mercedes-AMG E43 (4.6 seconds).
Expect three to four model variants in Australia, ranging from $40,000 to $60,000.
