Completely undisguised images of the Hyundai Kona have been leaked from the set of the car’s pre-production video shoot.

The photos you see here were submitted by Patrick Kramer to AutoWeek.nl. Kramer took these pictures during a recent trip to Lisbon, Portugal, where serendipitously the Kona was out and about doing a promotional video shoot.

Although the new Kona isn’t Hyundai’s first sub-Tucson SUV, that honour goes to the Indian market Creta and Chinese market ix25, it will be the first for the brand outside the world’s two most populous nations.

The new Kona features the company’s cascading grille, muscular accents along the side, wheel arch cladding, a black roof arch, and a two-tier headlight setup not dissimilar to the ones used on the Jeep Cherokee and a number of Citroen models.

The Kona is due for its global reveal some time during the Australian winter, before going on sale locally during the third quarter of this year. When it enter showrooms, it will face stiff competition from the Honda HR-V, Toyota C-HR, Mazda CX-3 and others.

It’s believed Kia will release its own small SUV based on the Kona next year.
