The 2010 model-year Mitsubishi i-MiEV has been recalled over concerns a faulty Cell Motor Unit (CMU) could cause the vehicle to roll backwards when trying to accelerate up an incline.
Mitsubishi reports 112 vehicles are fitted with a CMU that incorrectly judges changes to the temperature and voltage of the main traction battery when the car is rolling backwards, which could cause it to roll backwards on an incline rather than accelerate forward.
If the condition occurs, it poses an accident risk for occupants of the vehicle and other road users.
The recalled i-MiEV electric vehicles were sold from 30 March 2010 through 21 March 2011.
Owners of the affected models will be contacted via mail, and advised to present their i-MiEV to their local Mitsubishi dealer to have the CMU’s software upgraded.

This is the second recall for the little Japanese EV this week, with 177 examples sold between 2010 and 2013 recalled for being fitted with potentially lethal Takata airbag inflators.
